Comfort with yourself is key to learning. Self esteem is based in part on fitting in. Social skills help to fit in.
Not fitting in causes discomfort and can cause distraction from taking in new information or retaining information already taken in. Belonging and being part of a group or team means a level of comfort that can increase learning.
How can students fit in better to increase their comfort, esteem and ability to learn? Social and emotional skills can make a big difference, and not cost much to learn.
